Helen Savage

Helen Shirley Confer Savage, of Whiting, New Jersey, was called home to our Lord on April 24, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. Helen was born and raised in Niagara Falls, New York and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1949. Helen married Eugene F. Savage in 1950 and they were married for 56 years. They relocated to Warwick, RI in 1963 then moved to Marlboro, NJ in 1970. Subsequent moves included Keyport, NJ; Freehold Township, NJ; Millstone, NJ; and finally, to Whiting, NJ in 1994.Helen and Gene owned the well-known Chowder Pot Restaurant in Keyport, New Jersey from 1971-1991. Helen was an integral part of the restaurant whether cooking in the kitchen or as the congenial hostess. She is remembered fondly by many former employees and customers for her friendliness and kindness to all. Helen was an active community member of Cedar Glen Lakes in Whiting, NJ for over 20 years. An avid bowler and bocce ball team member, she also enjoyed singing in the holiday concert with many family members in attendance. She loved to have her daughters over to drink tea and have Scrabble marathons, in which she emerged victorious most of the time. Helen’s large extended family looked forward to having Grammy at every family celebration; her macaroni salad, potato salad, and dream bars were always in demand because she made them full of love. This loving great-grandma, whose nickname was GG, was so very proud of her family and never missed the opportunity to share their photos and accomplishments with everyone she met.Helen was predeceased by her devoted husband Eugene, infant son David Eugene, parents Milford and Ruth Confer; father and mother-in-law, Frank and Agnes Savage; brother and sister-in-law James and Joyce Confer, sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Raymond Johns; and sweetest granddaughter, Tara Deaver Hansen. Her family is comforted knowing that she is now reunited in heaven with all those who passed before her. Helen is survived by her four wonderful daughters and their husbands, Janelle and John Deaver, Joan and Angelo Randazzo, Patricia and Bray Barnes, and Kim and Robert Brightman; her brother and sister-in-law Louis and Antoinette Savage; 12 loving grandchildren; 24 ½ adorable, great- grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
